‘Unprecedented’ referendum result officially splits Belgium

Belgium has announced the results of its unity referendum, officially splitting Belgium into Flanders and Wallonia. The country announced the final split to be 56 percent in favor of separation and 44 percent in opposition.

Reports indicate that the referenmapbelgmdum may have been influenced by the string of terror attacks in Northern Belgium early in the day. The result of this decision is unprecedented, and the next steps for the country and the European Union are yet to be determined.

More to come as information becomes available.
