“The Lady” may run in December elections

mediumshotThe National League for Democracy and the military of Myanmar have agreed that free elections will be held Dec. 19, 2015.

In July 2015, Burmese constitution was amended to allow long-time human rights advocate and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi to run for president.

In response to questions about whether the long-time human rights advocate might run for president, the NLD issued the following statement.

“If it is the will of the people of Burma, Aung San Suu Kyi is not opposed to running for the presidency.  She has been a tireless advocate for democracy and human rights in Burma and we can think of no one better [to] lead Burma into a democratic state.  Obviously this is a decision for the people of Burma though.”
