The U.S. and China have announced that the two massive powers will be working together with other regional actors to help solve the nascent democracy’s internal struggles.
The U.S. announced that it will join China and a group of regional actors in searching for a peaceful solution to the current unrest in Burma.
The news was released shortly after China announced it had increased in troops in Burma’s southern Yunnan province.
US Ambassador to Burma Eliza Siordia added that the outcome of this cooperation could define the direction of Sino-US relations in the future.
China and the U.S. issued a Joint Statement on Cooperation in Myanmar in January 2014. However, the two countries have disagreed in recent years about the role of democracy in Burma’s government.
