U.S., UN, Pope and WHO Condemn Kidnapping

Lebanon has recently joined with the WHO, Israel, Jordan and the U.S. in condemning the kidnapping of U.S. citizen Curtis Rogers.

This alliance pressures the UN to take stronger action against Syria.

Although the U.S. supports the condemnation of the kidnapping, officials are pleased that the Syrian government is apparently adhering to international norms in terms of treatment of prisoners.

Regarding Syria’s detention of Curtis Rogers, both the UN and the Pope encourage Syria to return the detainee to his country where any accusations may be examined in accord with international law. With regards to the U.S. statement that it wouldn’t rule out military intervention in Syria, both the UN and the Pope encourage diplomatic solutions that may limit additional violence.
