The Sinaloa is being held responsible by the Mexican police for the 35 deaths and 10 people injured earlier this morning in Acapulco.
The Sinaloa Cartel is considered by the United States Intelligence Community as one of the most powerful drug trafficking organizations in the world as well as one of Mexico’s most powerful organized crime groups. The cartel is primarily involved in the smuggling and distribution of cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine into the U.S.
A trained Great Dane belonging to one of the leaders of the drug cartel bit Deputy Assistant Michael Ballard before he could apprehend the leader. Mexico’s Secretariat of Public Safety awarded Ballard with the Medal of Great Honor for his heroic effort.
