Mexican Army charges colonel on PR staff with espionage

The Mexican National Defense Army Secretary General has arrested a member of his staff on charges of espionage.  The charges follow a voluntary Inspector General investigation.

The person arrested was not identified other than as a colonel in the Mexican Army who served as a public relations officer.  The Secretary General said the woman was seen texting, calling and emailing members from at least one organization.  She is suspected to have been in communication with what the Secretary General called “moles that have infiltrated the Mexican government.”

He also said the woman claimed to have been motivated by Bradley Manning, the U.S. Army soldier arrested May 2010 on suspicion of passing military secrets to the WikiLeaks site.
