President places National Guard border states under command of Department of Defense

The National Guard deployed by the states of Arizona, New Mexico, California, and Texas is now under the authority of the  Department of the Defense.

A statement released today by President Obama stated that in the case of an emergency, a naval force will be dispatched off the western coast of Mexico to aid American civilians.

The tragedy in Juarez is currently being considered by the Department of Defense as an isolated incident, but every effort is being made to cooperate with Mexican armed forces. They will continue to investigate the attacks of today and are working to prevent any more violence.

Earlier today Gov. Perry of Texas expressed his condolences to the citizens of Ciudad Juarez, yet asked why state troops have been nationalized if the incident in Juarez is in fact isolated.
