Governors of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas are deploying their National Guard troops to secure their borders with Mexico, according to a release from the Northern Borders Governors Conference.
The NBGC is an umbrella organization in direct contact with Mexican representatives. This decision was announced as a precautionary move.
U.S. governors individually have the authority to deploy National Guard units within their states.
Arizona and California governors have instructed local police to be on the lookout for suspicious vehicles along major thoroughfares in the area.
Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activities to the Department of Homeland Security or local authorities.
